The story of the Yamaha XV Virago

The first Yamaha using the name Virago came out in 1981 as a 750cc with the (those days) revolutionary mono-shock suspention. Later on Yamaha returned to dual shock. In the US, Harley Davidson felt the hot breath of the Japanse cruisers and lobbied their governement to tax engines above 700cc. Yamaha responded promptly and brought back their Virago to 699cc and brought out a 500cc. In 1982 came the 920cc. That was the beginning of a fabulous journey through time.

In 1984, the entire series was redesigned. Than we got thate unique look of the Virago that still sells today (XV250). The Virago was a huge hit because of its fabulous price/quality. The 20cc was boosted to a full liter (2/5th of a gallon) and in 1986 came a 1036 cc version.

Compare the quality of the Yamaha XV Virago with another superb bike: The Harley Davidson :

Since 2000, the authentique Virago got replaced by the high tech retro V-series and the Rod Star.
